Grace Gentry

Teacher, Writer, Mentor

About

Grace is a dancer, writer, and teacher from Ohio, who dropped anchor in Richmond by way of a Oaxacan whirlwind, after being cleaned out by a Las Vegas gamble, and finally, washed ashore in a Texas thunderstorm.

Forever fascinated by words, Grace holds a dual-major degree from Wittenberg University in Communication and English Literature, and a Master’s of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MTESOL) from Arizona State University. Her teaching career follows a rich tapestry of experiences in non-profit work, small business marketing, and freelance writing and coaching.

Her professional work focuses on advocacy for multilingual learners, specializing in ESL literacy for speakers of Arabic languages. She has also pioneered a partnership with the Poe Museum in Richmond to offer classes to share the legacy of the father of American Gothic literature and inspire a new generation of writers.

While establishing herself as an esteemed ESL educator and creative writing instructor, Grace is simultaneously offering resume writing and career coaching services. With her expertise in language nuances and cultural sensitivities, she crafts standout resumes that highlight unique strengths, empowering clients in their job search. From cross-cultural contexts to career growth, Grace’s guidance goes beyond the classroom, helping individuals make a positive impact professionally.

With a passion for cultivating a diverse linguistic repertoire, Grace approaches new languages and linguistic challenges with humor and persistence. Grace speaks English natively, Spanish fluently, and French incredulously, most often to her beloved Shih Tzu/toy poodle mix, Louie (also known as 萧鲁迅), whose bark is untranslatable to anyone but his mother.
